Former President Muhammadu Buhari Passes Away

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has died. The announcement was made by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, via a post on social media platform X.

In his statement, Ahmad wrote:
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”

President Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier tenure as military head of state from 1983 to 1985. He was widely known for his anti-corruption stance and his efforts to revive and stabilize the country’s economy.

Born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, into a Fulani family, Buhari was the 23rd child of his father. His unique position as both a former military ruler and civilian president made him a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political history.

Details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in line with Islamic traditions.
