Governor Mutfwang Highlights Key Achievements, Reaffirms Commitment To Plateau’s Transformation
Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to transformative leadership, outlining strategic interventions across security, infrastructure, economy, healthcare, and education.
Speaking at a media parley with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Publishers Association, and social media influencers at the New Government House in Jos, Governor Mutfwang provided an update on progress made since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
The Governor emphasized security as a top priority, especially in rural communities. He cited the revitalization of Operation Rainbow and collaboration with security agencies and local communities as key steps in restoring peace and stability. “Plateau is safer than many North-Central states today,” he said, noting that no local government area is under the control of bandits.
In response to fuel subsidy removal, the administration launched the Metro Bus Scheme to ease transportation costs for residents, saving commuters up to ₦50,000 monthly. Additionally, train services have resumed through collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
Air travel has also improved, with increased flight frequency to Abuja and Lagos. Plans are underway to upgrade Yakubu Gowon Airport into a Cargo International Airport to support agricultural exports.
Governor Mutfwang said Plateau is regaining its status as a tourism and conference hub. Events such as the NBA Legal Practice Conference and constitutional review consultations have boosted the state’s profile.
He also highlighted ongoing road projects under the urban renewal agenda, emphasizing inclusivity across religious and ethnic lines. “We are building roads through Christian, Muslim, and mixed communities without discrimination,” he stated.
Reclaiming areas like Wase from bandit control has opened new opportunities for agricultural investment. “The grazing reserve in Wase is now safe and operational,” the Governor announced.
administration has upgraded the Plateau Specialist Hospital with a modern diagnostic lab and is preparing it to function as a teaching hospital. The revitalized PLASCHEMA and Drug Management Agency are ensuring access to quality healthcare and certified medications.
In education, institutions like Plateau State Polytechnic have doubled student enrolment due to strategic interventions, while Plateau State University has regained stability and is expanding its academic offerings.
Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of civil servants, stressing regular salary payments and improved working conditions. “Salary is not a favour; it is a right,” he stated.
The Governor praised the media for their role in driving public awareness and transparency, saying, “We haven’t arrived, but Plateau is rising.” He concluded with a pledge to continue building a state that is economically vibrant, socially united, and globally competitive.
