It was a colorful and inspiring gathering in Jos as members of the accounting profession came together to celebrate International Accounting Day 2025. The event, held on November 10, brought together all major professional accounting bodies the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) for a joint celebration filled with unity, pride, and purpose.
The day began with a lively health walk through major streets of Jos, as accountants traded calculators for sneakers to promote fitness and wellness. It was a symbolic gesture reminding everyone that while accountants are often seen as “doctors of numbers,” health remains the greatest wealth.
Speaking at the event, ICAN Chairman, Pam Musa Chung, FCA, ACTI, expressed gratitude for the successful turnout and the growing collaboration among professional bodies.
“Today, we celebrate not just a profession but a global community of professionals who keep the world’s financial systems in order. It’s also a time to remember the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the importance of integrity in everything we do.”
He emphasized that the celebration serves to highlight the critical role accountants play in business and governance while encouraging members to maintain professionalism and ethical standards.
From the CIFCFIN Chairman, Tony Garba, came a strong message about integrity and the fight against fraud.
“Accountants must first embody integrity if we are to fight corruption effectively. We must speak with one voice and uphold our code of ethics as we build a nation free from financial malpractice.”
Garba also encouraged young professionals to embrace forensic accounting, noting that CIFCFIN continues to train certified fraud investigators through its partnership with the EFCC Academy.
The Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Mr. Jim Pam Wayas, described the event as a moment to reflect on the profession’s historical roots and vital role in governance.
“Where two or three people gather in the name of money, there must be an accountant. We are the custodians of public trust ensuring accountability, transparency, and balance in the management of resources.”
He applauded the joint effort of all professional bodies, adding that the health walk and gathering helped create public awareness about the value of accountants in society.
“The walk is symbolic it’s our way of saying that before you belong to any professional body, you are first an accountant. Very few professions can be called the ‘doctors of numbers.’”
The event was marked by camaraderie, laughter, and pride as members interacted, networked, and reflected on their shared journey in the profession.
From discussions on ethics and integrity to renewed commitments toward public accountability and national development, the 2025 International Accounting Day celebration in Plateau State stood out as a vibrant reminder that the accounting profession is not just about numbers it’s about trust, service, and integrity.
