Jos, Plateau State — The Chairman of the Interim Committee of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Barr. Buhari Ibrahim Shehu, has declared that Nigerian youths are not lazy, praising their dedication and potential during a digital training programme in Jos.
The training, organised by Hamzury Innovation Hub and tagged #JosDigitalRise, brings together 50 selected scholars for hands-on digital skills development. Barr. Buhari emphasized that youths should see themselves as the hope of the nation, particularly in an era where “everything has gone digital.”
Highlighting similar previous initiatives, he noted that programs 0.1 and 0.2 were organised by the Ministry of Youth Development under Comrade Ayodele Olawande, benefiting many young Nigerians. Speaking to journalists, he encouraged Plateau State youths to step out of their comfort zones and showcase the hard work and talent they are widely known for.
Muhammad Hamzury, Chairman of RIDLDI, explained that the initiative was born from a desire to harness the digital skills of Nigerian youths. In an interview, he stated:
“What I learnt at the Abuja Chamber of Commerce is to convert skills into opportunities. Here in Jos, opportunities are rare, and the country’s educational system lacks a clear roadmap for youth empowerment. That is why we carefully selected participants who are eager to learn and ready to create change. The process was completely transparent.”
Hamzury further revealed that while more applicants are keen to join the programme, financial constraints and limited access to digital tools required prioritizing scholars who already have computers and other essential equipment. Plans are underway to expand the programme to accommodate more youth in the future.
This initiative demonstrates that with the right guidance and opportunities, Nigerian youths are not only capable but ready to lead in the digital age.
