The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army to remain disciplined, dedicated, and professional, stressing that their mission on the Plateau is crucial to the stability of the nation.
He gave the charge on Monday, 19 January 2026, during an operational visit to the 3 Division Headquarters in Jos, where he addressed officers and soldiers of the division.
During his remarks, the COAS described discipline as the foundation of the military profession, reminding personnel that service in the Nigerian Army is voluntary and driven by the responsibility to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
Lieutenant General Shaibu disclosed that he had received detailed briefings from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 3 Division on both operational and welfare challenges facing the troops, noting that the most urgent issues had already been addressed.
He assured the soldiers that Army Headquarters is providing the required combat equipment and support to enable them carry out their duties effectively. According to him, troop welfare remains a top priority, with sustained efforts to create a supportive working environment.
The Army Chief also advised younger soldiers to respect the chain of command and learn from their superiors, emphasizing the role of officers in mentoring them for professional growth and successful military careers.
He further encouraged all personnel to maintain high levels of physical fitness and mental readiness, noting that deliberate measures have been put in place to prepare them for the demands of military operations.
Speaking on leadership, Lieutenant General Shaibu highlighted the importance of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, describing them as the critical link between officers and soldiers, and urged them to provide effective guidance and leadership at the middle level.
On security operations in Plateau State, he noted that the situation is unique but assured troops that Operation ENDURING PEACE is well-coordinated and adequately supported to achieve its objectives.
The COAS urged personnel to channel complaints and concerns through the appropriate chain of command, assuring them that such matters would receive prompt attention.
He reaffirmed that the nation recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices of its soldiers, encouraging them to take pride in their service and uphold professionalism and honour in line with international best practices.
As part of efforts to improve troop welfare, the COAS also commissioned two blocks of 30 flats for Non-Commissioned Officers and an additional block of residential accommodation for officers at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos.
