Senator Diket Satso Plang, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, has donated 18-seater buses to two health training institutions in Plateau State as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare education and service delivery in the region.
The buses were presented alongside the Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Gang in central zone, attended by management, staff, and students of the two health institutions.
The beneficiaries are the Mwaghavul College of Health Technology, Pushit, and the College of Health Technology, Pankshin, the only health technology institutions in Plateau Central.
Speaking during the presentation, Senator Plang said the intervention was informed by the vital role the institutions play in training and retraining healthcare personnel who serve communities across the state and beyond.
“The two Colleges of Health Technology are the only colleges of health technology in Plateau Central. I visited them because of the importance of health, not just to my constituents but to Nigerians as a whole,” he said.
The senator noted that the increasing demand for quality healthcare services makes continuous training of health workers essential.
According to him, health institutions remain critical to producing skilled personnel and updating practitioners on emerging diseases, modern treatment methods, and public health challenges.
“These institutions are not only producing health personnel, they also help in re-educating health workers to meet contemporary health challenges. Any support given to them is a contribution towards sustaining quality healthcare services,” he stated.
Senator Plang also commended the Plateau State Government for the rehabilitation, reconstruction, and upgrading of health facilities across rural communities.
He stressed that stakeholders must continue to complement government efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and human capital development.
The lawmaker explained that the donation followed requests from the institutions and gave him an opportunity to assess their needs firsthand.
“Visiting these institutions and interacting with them physically helps one to understand their true needs. As I return, I will continue to explore ways of supporting their infrastructural and human capital development,” he added.
He assured the management and students of his continued commitment to supporting healthcare education, describing the donation as a partnership aimed at improving health outcomes in Plateau Central and Nigeria at large.
Presenting the buses to the Tertiary institutions, Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kachollom Gang, commended Senator Plang for the gesture.
She described the donation as a significant contribution to health education and training, noting that it would support students and staff during academic and practical engagements.
Dr. Gang also highlighted the historical importance of the College of Health Technology, Pankshin, describing it as one of the oldest institutions of its kind in Nigeria.
She emphasized the need for expansion, improved infrastructure, and sustained investment to meet the growing demands of students and staff.
“We want to appreciate Senator Diket Plang for this gesture. The College of Health Technology, Pankshin, is one of the oldest in this country, and we believe that with continued support from stakeholders, more development can be attracted to the institution,” she said.
The commissioner assured the institutions of the state government’s commitment to strengthening health education through programme accreditation, improved staffing, and access to development opportunities.
“We have seen the needs of these institutions, and we will continue to work towards improving them. We are determined to ensure that our students receive quality education and that these schools continue to grow and meet national standards,” she added.
She encouraged students to remain focused on their studies, stressing that dedication and excellence would position them for successful careers in the healthcare sector.
Also speaking, the Provost of the College of Health Technology, Pankshin, Mr. Emmanuel Mahan, praised Senator Plang for the donation, describing it as a demonstration of his commitment to education and healthcare development.
He said the bus would improve transportation for students and staff while enhancing academic and practical training activities.
Mahan further highlighted the institution’s recent achievements, including the accreditation of nine programmes and plans to commence Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes.
He appealed for continued support in infrastructure and staff development to further strengthen the college’s growth and academic standing.
Similarly, the Provost of Mwaghavul College of Health Technology, Pushit, Mr. Ignatius Yamson, expressed gratitude to Senator Plang for the donation.
He described the gesture as a timely intervention and noted that the institution had long looked forward to such support.
Yamson explained that the vehicle would be used to transport students to clinical posting centres in rural communities and for educational excursions.
He assured the senator that the bus would be properly maintained and utilized judiciously for the benefit of students and the institution.
