Academic activities at the Plateau State University, Bokkos, may be disrupted indefinitely following the declaration of a total strike by the institution’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The union said the action became necessary after the university management failed to resolve six outstanding demands despite a 14-day ultimatum issued on August 11, 2026.
In a statement, ASUU-PLASU directed all its members to immediately suspend academic activities across the institution.
The union said the decision followed the expiration of the ultimatum without satisfactory resolution of the issues raised.
According to the union, the strike is total and indefinite, with members expected to remain on the industrial action until further notice.
ASUU-PLASU maintained that the action was aimed at compelling the university management to address the six unresolved demands.
The development is expected to affect lectures, academic supervision and other activities involving members of the union.
The union urged its members to comply fully with the directive and remain committed to the collective position of the chapter.
It said further developments would be communicated to members and other stakeholders as negotiations with the university management progress.
The latest action comes amid renewed concerns over unresolved issues affecting the welfare and working conditions of university lecturers.
Students of the institution are expected to feel the impact of the strike, particularly as academic activities have been ordered to remain suspended indefinitely.
ASUU-PLASU said the strike would only be called off after satisfactory attention is given to the six demands that prompted the industrial action.
