The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel, has called for calm and restraint following recent security incidents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North.
In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, the Speaker expressed concern over the reported killings, describing the situation as unfortunate and a setback to the peace and stability of Plateau State.
He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining peace and preventing further escalation.
The Speaker also commended Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his swift response to the crisis, including visits to affected communities and immediate interventions aimed at restoring order.
Daniel cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of heightening tensions, while appealing to youths to resist any attempts to engage in violence or reprisal attacks.
He further assured that the State Assembly would continue to collaborate with the executive arm of government and security agencies to strengthen coordination and support peacebuilding efforts.
The Speaker also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to intensify efforts in promoting unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
He expressed optimism that with sustained collaboration and commitment from all stakeholders, peace would be restored and strengthened across Plateau State.
