The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that “Berom bandits” were arrested in Danwal, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on April 20, 2026, BYM said the narrative distorts the actual events that took place on the evening of April 17, insisting that the individuals arrested were not criminals but community youths who intervened to save a victim of a violent attack.

According to the association, at about 7:30 p.m. on the said date, two residents of Danwal, Mr. Ayuba Gyang, 49, and Mr. Dakon Bala, 30, were ambushed while returning home on a motorcycle. The attackers, suspected to be armed bandits, had reportedly mounted a roadblock and were armed with firearms and machetes.

BYM explained that while Dakon Bala managed to escape into the bush, Ayuba Gyang was severely injured after being attacked and left for dead by the assailants.

The association noted that local youths, upon hearing cries for help, quickly mobilized to the scene, rescued the victim, and facilitated his evacuation to Vom Christian Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

BYM expressed concern that security personnel who later arrived at the scene allegedly arrested the same youths who carried out the rescue operation, labeling them as “Berom terrorists,” a move the association described as unjust and unacceptable.

Condemning what it called a gross misrepresentation of facts, BYM called on security agencies to immediately release the arrested youths and focus on tracking down the real perpetrators behind the attack.

The association also urged the public to disregard unverified information and rely on credible sources, warning that misinformation could heighten tension and undermine justice.

BYM reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of communities, while calling on relevant authorities to act responsibly and ensure that those truly responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
