The Plateau State Government has intensified preparations for the rollout of the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) 2.0 programme, with a high-level strategic retreat designed to strengthen implementation frameworks and ensure impactful delivery across the state.
The six-day retreat, convened by the Plateau State CARES Coordinating Unit (PLSCCU), is currently underway at KINI Country Hotel and Suites in Akwanga, Nasarawa State. It has drawn key operational staff, delivery platform heads, and stakeholders responsible for driving the next phase of the intervention programme.
Declaring the retreat open, the Chairman of the Plateau State CARES Steering Committee and Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Grace Dongkum, described NG-CARES as the “mother of all projects” for the state’s development agenda.
“This retreat is a critical opportunity for all stakeholders to deepen their understanding of the NG-CARES 2.0 framework,” she said. “The success of this phase depends on our ability to translate these strategies into tangible results for the people of Plateau State.”
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging the initiative as a key tool for poverty alleviation, economic recovery, and improved livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable households and small-scale enterprises.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of PL-CARES, Dr. Haggai Gutap, noted that the retreat is structured to equip implementing teams with the technical expertise and strategic direction required for efficient programme execution.
“We are not just looking forward; we are also looking back to move better,” Dr. Gutap stated. “A key component of this week’s agenda is a comprehensive review of the activities implemented during NG-CARES 1.0. By identifying past challenges and gaps, we can chart a more resilient and efficient path forward for Version 2.0.”
He explained that lessons learned from the first phase would play a critical role in refining processes, improving accountability, and enhancing service delivery mechanisms under the new phase.
The retreat features intensive technical sessions, performance evaluations, and collaborative planning modules aimed at strengthening coordination across all delivery platforms. Participants are also focusing on strategies to ensure that interventions effectively reach underserved and vulnerable populations in both rural and urban communities.
Stakeholders at the retreat expressed optimism that the outcomes of the sessions would provide a clear roadmap for the successful implementation of NG-CARES 2.0, aligning with broader state and national development priorities.
PL-CARES, a multi-sectoral intervention programme, is designed to expand access to livelihood support, basic social services, and food security, while also providing grants to poor and vulnerable households as well as small businesses.
With the renewed strategic focus, Plateau State is positioning itself to deliver more inclusive, transparent, and results-driven outcomes under NG-CARES 2.0.
