Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Navy, has emphasized that true legislative performance is best measured by its impact on citizens rather than unnecessary confrontation with the executive arm of government.
He made this known during a media parley with journalists in Jos, where he outlined his legislative record and contributions at the National Assembly.
According to him, “Performance in parliament is not about confrontation with the executive. It is about the laws you sponsor and how those laws improve the lives of your people.”
Gagdi noted that his focus has remained on people-oriented lawmaking, stressing that he has sponsored several bills aimed at addressing key national challenges.
He disclosed that he has presented 58 bills at the National Assembly, with six already assented to, contributing to governance, institutional development, and national growth.
“Some people believe performance is defined by constant disagreements with the executive, but that is not governance. Governance is about results, not noise,” he added.
The lawmaker maintained that his approach to representation is centered on the needs of the people, with emphasis on job creation, institutional strengthening, and improved security.
He further explained that many of his legislative initiatives are targeted at tackling critical issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and systemic reforms, noting that some have already facilitated the establishment of key institutions.
“The National Assembly is not a theatre for unnecessary confrontation. It is a platform where ideas are transformed into laws that shape the future of the country,” he stated.
On insecurity, Gagdi called for a coordinated national response, stressing that effective legislative support for security agencies remains vital to achieving lasting peace.
He urged Nigerians to assess their representatives based on measurable outcomes rather than political rhetoric, emphasizing transparency and accountability in governance.
Gagdi reaffirmed his commitment to sustained service, pledging to continue championing initiatives that drive development in his constituency and strengthen national unity.
Gagdi further stressed that attracting federal institutions to Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam remains a deliberate strategy to stimulate local development and create opportunities for the people.
He noted that increased access to education and healthcare services has already begun to improve living standards, while ongoing infrastructure projects are enhancing connectivity and economic activities across the constituency.
“Our focus is to ensure that our people feel the impact of governance through improved schools, better healthcare facilities, and accessible infrastructure that supports daily life and economic growth,” he said.
Gagdi added that youth empowerment programmes will continue to receive attention, as equipping young people with relevant skills remains essential for sustainable development.
He also reiterated the importance of investing in human capital, noting that education and capacity-building initiatives are key drivers of long-term progress in the constituency.
“I will continue to pursue inclusive policies that bring development to every part of Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam. No community will be left behind as we work together to build a stronger and more prosperous constituency,” he assured.
Gagdi also emphasized the importance of strengthening security across Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam, noting that collaboration with security agencies and community leaders remains essential in protecting lives and property.
He stated that he has continued to raise concerns on the floor of the House over insecurity affecting parts of the constituency, while advocating for stronger interventions and improved response strategies.
“Security is a collective responsibility. We must continue to work closely with security agencies and community leaders to safeguard our people and ensure lasting peace across Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam,” he said.
Gagdi further called for unity among residents, urging communities to set aside ethnic and religious differences in the interest of peace and development.
He maintained that meaningful progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of stability, cooperation, and mutual understanding among the people.
“We cannot achieve meaningful development without peace. I urge our people to remain united, support one another, and work together for the progress of our constituency,” he added.
