The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has raised the alarm over the high cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, across the state.

DAILY POST reports that the commissioner raised the alarm during a press conference on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Benin City.

Agbonika said that in the last two months, the command has arrested over 23 suspects linked to rape, defilement and other SGBV-related offences in the state.

“This trend is painful, unacceptable and deeply concerning. Violence is never a solution to any disagreement or desire. Rather, it destroys lives, families and communities,” he said.

He assured that the command would continue to pursue offenders relentlessly and ensure justice for survivors
