Jos, Plateau State – Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, on Sunday offered thanksgiving to God as they marked three years in office, expressing profound gratitude for divine guidance, protection, and the unwavering support of the people of Plateau State throughout their administration’s journey.
The thanksgiving service, held at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, attracted a distinguished gathering of former governors, serving and former lawmakers, ministers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Mutfwang reflected on the challenges that have defined his administration, including the 2023 electoral process, legal battles that threatened his mandate, and persistent security concerns facing the state. He attributed the successes recorded over the past three years to God’s faithfulness and mercy.
“Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” the governor declared.
He noted that despite the obstacles encountered, his administration remained focused on delivering purposeful governance and improving the welfare of Plateau citizens.
Highlighting some of the administration’s achievements, Governor Mutfwang disclosed that more than ₦16 billion has been paid in pensions and gratuities, while over ₦4 billion has been provided as medical assistance to vulnerable and indigent citizens across the state.
The governor also pointed to significant investments in healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation, tourism, water supply, and peacebuilding initiatives aimed at fostering development and social cohesion.
According to him, the Plateau Specialist Hospital now boasts one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country, with standards recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). He also commended the contributions of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the State Ambulance Service in strengthening healthcare delivery.
Reflecting on the impact of government interventions, Governor Mutfwang recalled an emotional moment when public water supply was restored to communities that had gone nearly two decades without access.
“When I saw women dancing after water returned to communities that had gone nearly twenty years without public water supply, I shed tears. These are the images that push me on,” he said.
As the administration enters its fourth year, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to protecting Plateau State’s heritage, defending its people, and ensuring that citizens continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy. He urged residents to remain united, prayerful, and committed to the shared vision of a peaceful and prosperous state.
Governor Mutfwang also expressed deep appreciation to the people of Plateau State for their unwavering support, particularly women, youths, and children whose demonstrations of faith and solidarity during the period leading to the Supreme Court judgment affirming his election victory remain unforgettable.
“I will never forget the sacrifices made by our women, youths, and children who stood firm in faith and hope during that difficult period,” he stated.
Speaking on behalf of former governors, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.) commended Governor Mutfwang for his dedication, sincerity of purpose, and determination to transform the state. He urged citizens to continue supporting and praying for the administration.
“We have seen the remarkable efforts of the Governor because he genuinely has the interests of the people at heart. We must continue to pray for him and unite ourselves for the peace and prosperity of Plateau State,” Atukum said.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo welcomed worshippers and guests to the thanksgiving service and thanked God for His faithfulness over the administration’s three-year journey.
She highlighted achievements recorded in infrastructure development, healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment, noting that deliberate interventions by the government are gradually transforming lives and creating opportunities for citizens.
Also speaking, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, Da Isaac Wakili, commended the administration’s commitment to peace, unity, and development.
He observed improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, and agriculture, while cautioning politicians against divisive rhetoric capable of undermining the collective interests of the state.
Delivering the sermon titled “Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity,” Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, encouraged citizens to embrace gratitude and work together in promoting peace and development.
He praised Governor Mutfwang for returning to God in thanksgiving and noted that the administration has demonstrated resilience, prayerfulness, and commitment to transforming Plateau State.
“Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. What unites us must always be greater than what divides us. It is time to focus on the future of our state,” he said.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, and the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, represented by CAN Vice President Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, both of whom commended Governor Mutfwang’s leadership and commitment to the welfare of Plateau citizens.
The service featured special prayers for lasting peace, unity, improved security, and continued development across Plateau State, while clergy and worshippers prayed for divine wisdom, strength, and protection for Governor Mutfwang as he continues to lead the state.
The thanksgiving celebration served not only as a reflection on the administration’s journey over the past three years but also as a renewed commitment to building a united, peaceful, and prosperous Plateau State.
