After years of recurring attacks that have claimed lives, destroyed property, and displaced families across Riyom Local Government Area, the council has taken a fresh step to strengthen community security with the distribution of over 40 motorcycles to security operatives.
The Executive Chairman of Riyom LGA, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, distributed the motorcycles to conventional and non-conventional security personnel drawn from the 17 wards of the local government during a ceremony held at the Council Secretariat.
Speaking at the event, Shuwa said the intervention was aimed at improving security operations and enhancing the ability of operatives to respond swiftly to threats in both urban and rural communities.
“The protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of my administration. This intervention is a deliberate effort to improve the mobility and operational capacity of our security personnel,” he said.
The Chairman noted that the difficult terrain in many parts of Riyom often poses challenges to security operations, adding that the motorcycles would help operatives carry out patrols, surveillance, and emergency responses more effectively.
According to him, “Enhanced mobility will enable our security personnel to respond more swiftly to security threats, conduct regular patrols, and strengthen surveillance across vulnerable communities.”
He urged beneficiaries to use the motorcycles strictly for official duties and warned against converting them to personal use, stressing that the initiative was designed solely to improve the safety of residents.
Shuwa expressed confidence that the motorcycles would complement ongoing efforts by security agencies and community stakeholders to restore peace and stability throughout the local government.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting all lawful measures aimed at protecting communities that have endured years of insecurity and violence.
The initiative received commendation from stakeholders present at the ceremony, who described the intervention as timely and capable of strengthening security presence across Riyom’s communities while boosting public confidence in ongoing peace and security efforts.
