EFCC Arrests Former Plateau Speaker, 14 Other Ex-Lawmakers Over Alleged N2.5Billion Vehicle Scam
The arrests, which took place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, followed petitions from concerned citizens of Plateau State accusing the lawmakers of violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Moses Thomas Sule, alongside 14 other former lawmakers, over alleged money laundering and abuse of procurement processes.
The arrests, which took place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, followed petitions from concerned citizens of Plateau State accusing the lawmakers of violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
According to preliminary findings by the EFCC, the accused legislators, who served for only six months, allegedly benefited from the purchase of luxury vehicles by the state government valued at over N2.5 billion.
The vehicles were reportedly procured in their official capacities without following due process.
The other former lawmakers arrested include: Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Philip Gwom, Thomas Dantong, Happiness Mathew Akawu, Cornelius Dotyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Bala Ndat, Salome Tanimu Wanglet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.
Meanwhile, upon leaving office, the vehicles were meant to be returned to the state government, but were taken away by the legislators, and all efforts to retrieve them were unsuccessful.
However, the state government had to procure another set of vehicles for the current members of the House of Assembly, valued at approximately N2 billion.
The former Speaker and other members will soon be charged in court.
