Massive Endorsement As Middle-Belt Ethnic Groups Rally Behind Governor Mutfwang For A Second Term
Over 300 Middle-Belt Ethnic Nationalities in Plateau Pass Vote of Confidence in Governor Mutfwang, Endorse Him for Second Term
Over 300 ethnic nationalities from Nigeria’s Middle Belt residing in Plateau State have passed a vote of confidence in Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, endorsing him for a second term in office.
The endorsement was made on Sunday, August 10, 2025, during a leadership meeting held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Jos, the Plateau State capital. In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the ethnic leaders praised the Governor’s performance in areas such as peacebuilding, security, infrastructure, and inclusive governance.
Speaking on behalf of the ethnic nationalities, Prof. Dogo said:
“We, the leaders of over 300 ethnic nationalities of the Middle Belt on the Plateau, after critical deliberations, express our full confidence in the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and his Deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo. His commitment to development, peace, and inclusiveness has earned our deepest commendation.”
The group acknowledged the Governor’s efforts despite longstanding political and security challenges, noting that his administration has made notable progress in human capital and infrastructure development since the return of democracy in 1999.
Hon. Daniel Kwada, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Middle Belt Ethnic Nationalities, described the endorsement as just the beginning of broader support:
“This vote of confidence is a testament to Governor Mutfwang’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. Representatives from Southern Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, and others are united behind him. He has become a new political leader for the Middle Belt region.”
Kwada emphasized that the endorsement reflects a collective desire for continued stability, development, and unity under Governor Mutfwang’s leadership.
Also speaking, Mr. Magaji Ibrahim John, Chairman of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association on the Plateau and Assistant Controller of the Correctional Service, commended the Governor and the SSA for their service:
“The Governor’s efforts in tackling insecurity are evident. He’s doing his best, and what he needs now is our full cooperation—from the ethnic groups, security agencies, and all stakeholders.”
Mr. John also offered prayers for lasting peace in the state.
Former Plateau State lawmaker Hon. Danjuma Azi, who now serves as a liaison officer after the Court of Appeal overturned his election, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to continue serving his constituents. He reaffirmed his support for Mutfwang’s administration:
“Many of the ethnic nationalities in Plateau own property here—they are not outsiders. They have a stake in the state’s future and therefore have every right to contribute to decisions that affect its progress.”
Azi pledged to work with community leaders to mobilize support for the Governor and ensure continuity of the ongoing development projects.
The leaders concluded by encouraging their communities to participate actively in the upcoming voter registration exercise, vowing to mobilize support to ensure the Governor’s re-election and continued development of Plateau State.
