Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 Forest Guards as part of efforts to strengthen security and address insecurity, particularly in forested and rural communities across the state.
The Governor made this known during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving and Interdenominational Church Service held at the Our Lady of Fatima Cathedral, Laranto, Jos.
Governor Mutfwang commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Forest Guards, describing the decision as a bold and strategic move to enhance grassroots security and support ongoing military and security operations in Plateau State.
He explained that the Forest Guards will play a vital role in intelligence gathering, safeguarding farmlands, and curbing criminal activities within forest areas, thereby improving the safety and security of communities statewide.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure lasting peace, noting that the Forest Guards will complement the efforts of the Armed Forces and other security outfits.
He also paid tribute to both serving and fallen members of the Armed Forces, acknowledging their sacrifices and professionalism, which he said contributed significantly to the relative peace recorded during the recent festive period.
Governor Mutfwang assured residents that his government remains committed to supporting security personnel and will continue to prioritise initiatives that promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in Plateau State.
