Plateau Central: Senator Diket Plang Outlines Broad Achievements in Jobs, Infrastructure and Lawmaking
The Senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, Senator Diket Plang, has reiterated his dedication to delivering strong and impactful representation for the people of Plateau Central. Speaking with journalists at his residence in Jos on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the senator outlined his ongoing efforts in employment facilitation, constituency projects, and legislative interventions.
Senator Plang noted that his leadership style is rooted in direct engagement with his constituents. He explained that he frequently attends community functions—often unannounced—including weddings and other social events, where he interacts with residents and offers support.
One of the major highlights of his stewardship is the facilitation of employment opportunities for young people across Plateau Central. According to him, over 100 graduates have secured positions in various federal agencies, with the list of beneficiaries set to be officially published soon.
Many others, he added, have gained employment in paramilitary agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
“I am particularly interested in placing qualified graduates with first and second degrees into federal institutions where they can grow and contribute meaningfully,” he said.
Beneficiaries are spread across key agencies including:
- Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)
- National Assembly Service Commission
- National Directorate of Employment
- Federal Medical Centres
- And other strategic federal institutions
The senator also revealed that four students from Plateau Central will be sponsored to India for further studies, with their admissions and visa processes already completed.
Addressing recent allegations of underperformance, Senator Plang dismissed such claims as unfair and politically motivated. He emphasized that his achievements are visible, verifiable and based on clear evidence of work done across the senatorial zone.
Despite being a first-term senator, Plang currently holds significant legislative responsibilities:
- Chairman: Senate Committee on Labour, Employment & Productivity
- Vice Chairman: Senate Committee on Federal Character
- Member: Appropriation, Finance, Customs, Navy, Air Force and several ad-hoc committees
“I believe I should rate myself as someone who has done well within the shortest time God has given me,” he stated.
Upon assuming office, Plateau Central particularly Mangu, Bokkos and parts of Kanke was facing severe security challenges. Senator Plang responded by initiating major interventions targeted at school safety.
He successfully completed perimeter fencing for over five major secondary schools, including:
- Government Secondary School, Mangu
- Government Day Secondary School, Pankshin
- Langko Memorial Secondary School, Bakin Zom
- Government Secondary School, Kabwir
- Government Secondary School, Kwami (Kanam LGA)
These projects aim to protect students, safeguard school properties, prevent land encroachment, and create safe learning environments.
Additionally, he provided solar-powered lighting to schools, health centres, worship centres, police stations and crisis-prone communities to improve night-time security
Senator Plang facilitated the construction and fencing of key police facilities such as:
- Divisional Police Headquarters, Gindiri
- Police Outpost in Kantana
He also built residential units for officers and provided solar lighting for several security installations across the zone.
Recognizing agriculture as the economic backbone of Plateau Central, the senator distributed:
- 14 trucks of high-quality fertilizer (10 in 2024 and 4 in 2025)
- 300 water pumping machines for irrigation farmers
- Pesticides and insecticides
He also initiated road grading projects and water supply schemes, including motorized boreholes in Panyam, Bokkos and Kantana, as well as over 15 hand-pump boreholes across various communities.
Through targeted empowerment programs, Senator Plang distributed:
- Grinding machines
- Sewing machines and tailoring tools
- Salon equipment
- POS machines with training and startup support for over 200 youths
He also paid WAEC and NECO examination fees for students in selected schools and distributed laptops to enhance digital learning.
The senator facilitated the construction and renovation of classrooms and examination halls in several schools, including:
- Izala Community Secondary School, Kanam
- Government Secondary School, Tukur
- Koke Community School, Kanam
- Rof Community School
He also delivered an ICT Centre at Plateau State University, Bokkos, in collaboration with the Senate Committee on ICT.
Senator Plang implemented tree-planting programs and distributed seedlings to schools and religious institutions as part of his environmental conservation efforts. He also renovated health facilities, provided solar lighting, and supported traditional institutions.
During difficult seasons, he provided food items—including maize, rice, beans and millet—and extended financial support to crisis victims and displaced persons.
Senator Plang outlined several bills he has sponsored, many of which have passed both chambers of the National Assembly and await presidential assent. These include:
- Federal University of Mining and Geosciences
- Federal Medical Centre, Kanke
- National Eye Centre, Mangu
- Artificial Intelligence & Innovation Centre, Jos
- Technical & Vocational Secondary Schools Bill
- Water and Irrigation Institute Bill
- Bill to strengthen the National Population Commission
He also sponsored motions on insecurity and successfully moved the motion that led to the inclusion of the Akwanga–Jos–Gombe Road as one of the President’s legacy projects.
Senator Plang urged constituents and political actors to embrace unity and avoid divisive politics as election season approaches.
“Politics should be about ideas and service to the people. To say that I have done nothing is simply not true. Most of these projects are physical and visible,” he emphasized.
