The Plateau State Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Kachollom Pyam Gang, has expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance and the impressive turnout of students and teachers following the resumption of schools across the state after a temporary closure prompted by security concerns.
Dr. Gang made this known while addressing journalists after monitoring the reopening of schools in Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas. She explained that the smooth resumption of academic activities reflects the effectiveness of the proactive security measures implemented by the state government.
Recall that the Plateau State Government had earlier ordered the closure of schools as a precautionary measure in response to prevailing security challenges. However, with improvements in the security situation, the government subsequently directed both public and private schools to reopen and resume normal academic activities.
The Commissioner, who was represented during the monitoring exercise by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Sadia Yaro, said the ministry was encouraged by the level of preparedness displayed by school authorities and the enthusiasm shown by students.
“We are impressed with the school management and the students, and I encourage them to sustain this commitment,” she said, adding that the government remains determined to minimize disruptions to the academic calendar.
She further emphasized that ensuring students are adequately prepared for their examinations remains a top priority for the ministry, despite the challenges posed by the earlier closure.
Schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Saint John’s College, Government Secondary School Anglo Jos, Majesty International Academy Zarmaganda, and Government Secondary School Kuwi, all within the Jos metropolis.
