Residents of Wokkos in Pankshin Local Government Area and Piapun–Tunkus in Mikang Local Government Area have welcomed a major development boost as the Plateau State Government commenced the construction of strategic rural road projects aimed at improving access, strengthening agriculture, and stimulating local economies.
The projects were flagged off on behalf of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang by the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Joshua Laven Ubandoma, who said the initiatives reflect the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and its resolve to reward unity and community support. He described the roads as signature projects personally championed by the governor and long overdue interventions that would unlock the vast agricultural and economic potential of the areas.
According to Ubandoma, the roads are vital to food production, economic empowerment, and social integration, stressing that the government is intentional about opening up rural communities and ensuring development reaches the grassroots. He urged the contractors, Jon Global Limited, to strictly adhere to project specifications and assured that the works would be closely monitored by government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders. He also encouraged the engagement of local youths during construction to promote job creation and skills development.
At the flag-off of the Lifidi–Piapung–Tunkus Road, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Daniel Naanlong Gapyil, described the project as a legacy intervention capable of transforming Mikang LGA’s economy. He noted that with over 80 percent of residents engaged in farming, the road would ease the transportation of farm produce, enhance revenue generation, and foster unity and new economic opportunities.
“For us in Mikang, this is a dream fulfilled. This road has featured in our budgets and aspirations for years, and today it is becoming a reality,” Gapyil said.
The Executive Chairman of Mikang LGA, Hon. Dr. Bernard Soepding Alkali, also thanked the state government, describing the project as a historic breakthrough that would improve inter-community trade, boost agricultural productivity, and positively change the economic fortunes of the area.
Similarly, at the flag-off of the Wokkos District Road in Pankshin LGA, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and member representing Pankshin South Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel, said the project was a clear fulfilment of Governor Mutfwang’s promise to the people. He described the Pankshin–Wokkos Road as a lasting legacy and proof that sincere commitments are honoured.
The Executive Chairman of Pankshin LGA, Hon. Felix Amos Gonung, expressed appreciation to the governor for delivering on campaign promises and addressing the long-neglected infrastructure needs of rural communities.
Community leaders and residents in both Mikang and Pankshin LGAs hailed the road projects as life-changing interventions that would enhance access, security, agricultural productivity, and economic activities.
The newly flagged-off projects form part of 10 new road constructions initiated by the Mutfwang administration, alongside the ongoing rehabilitation of 45 previously abandoned road projects across Plateau State.
