The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Hamisu Abdullahi, for allegedly shouting “no water, no light” during the visit of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago to the Emir of Suleja after the Eid al-Fitr prayers.
Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, told Daily Trust that the suspect was arrested for attempting to disrupt government activities during the governor’s Sallah visit. He disclosed that Abdullahi was apprehended in Suleja and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna on March 20, 2026, on allegations of suspected thuggery.
According to the police, the suspect was later granted bail while investigations into the incident continue.
The suspect’s brother, Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed his release on Tuesday evening after spending five days in detention.
Hamisu Abdullahi, an electrician and father of four residing in Unguwan Bayi, Suleja, was reportedly arrested after shouting the phrase at the emir’s palace during the governor’s visit.
