The BEGE Foundation has strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians in Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North, describing the incident as senseless and a threat to peace in Plateau State.
In a press statement issued on March 30, 2026, and signed by its Executive Director, Godwin A. Okoko, the foundation said the attack, which occurred on the night of March 29 in Gari Ya Waye community, was unacceptable and inhumane.
The organization noted that the violence appeared to be a deliberate attempt by criminal elements to undermine the progress made in peacebuilding, security, and development across the state.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the people of Angwan Rukuba during this difficult time,” the statement read.
The foundation called on security agencies to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation, apprehend the perpetrators, and keep the public informed to ensure accountability and rebuild trust.
While acknowledging steps taken by the government to safeguard lives and property, the group urged authorities to go beyond assurances by ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
The BEGE Foundation also stressed the need for collaboration between security agencies and community leaders, urging vigilance and proactive measures to prevent further attacks.
It commended youth and community leaders in Angwan Rukuba for their resilience and commitment to peace, encouraging them not to allow the incident to derail ongoing peacebuilding efforts.
The group further warned against actions that could escalate tensions, urging residents and stakeholders—including religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, and analysts—to promote calm, unity, and responsible public discourse.
“At this critical moment, we must reject division, resist provocation, and work together to strengthen community security systems,” the statement added.
The foundation reiterated that justice for the victims is essential for sustaining peace and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security, and development in Plateau State.
