Senator Diket Satso Plang, representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, has formally presented his nomination and expression of interest forms to stakeholders in Pankshin Local Government Area, as part of consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The senator said the visit was aimed at informing his people first about his intention to seek re-election, while also requesting their prayers, support, and blessings as he prepares for another contest.
During the visit, Senator Plang met with the Ngolong Ngas at his palace, the Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government, party leaders, and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to stakeholders, the senator said the people of Pankshin deserved to know every step he was taking politically because they were the ones who gave him the mandate to serve in the Senate.
“My people need to know where I am and why I want to return to the Senate. I came to seek their prayers and support because they gave me this opportunity,” he said.
Senator Plang explained that his return for a second term would place him in a stronger position to attract more benefits to Plateau Central, having gained legislative experience and stronger working relationships with ranking lawmakers.
“My second return to the Senate will be of great advantage to my constituency. With the experience I now have, I will be more productive and more effective,” he stated.
The lawmaker highlighted some of the bills he has sponsored at the 10th National Assembly, including a bill for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Kanke, which he said has passed third reading in the Senate and is awaiting presidential assent.
He also mentioned a bill for the establishment of a National Eye Centre in Pushit, Mangu, saying the project would improve specialist eye care services and benefit students of the school for the blind in the area.
Senator Plang further disclosed that he is sponsoring bills for an Irrigation and Water Management Institute in Nankat, an Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Centre, and a Federal College of Vocational and Technical Studies to create opportunities for youths and farmers.
On mineral development, the senator revealed that he sponsored a bill for the establishment of Nigeria’s first University of Mining and Geosciences, aimed at helping the country maximize its mineral resources through education and research.
He also recalled moving a motion that contributed to the inclusion of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe Road in the Federal Government’s legacy infrastructure projects.
Responding, the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, prayed for the senator and said leadership comes from God. He urged all aspirants from the area to embrace dialogue and unity rather than toxic politics.
“We pray that God will continue to guide you. Leadership is from God, and all aspirants must pursue peace and unity,” the monarch said.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Area, Hon. Felix Gonung, described Senator Plang as a humble leader who respects his people and understands governance, having risen through different political offices.
He pledged the support of the council and the people of Pankshin, describing the senator as both a father and son of the land who has continued to protect their interests.
APC stalwart Chief Maichibi Vwarji also declared support for the senator, praising him for returning home to present his forms to the people.
“I have never seen a campaign like this before. Many politicians do not even come home to show the people they want to represent that they have obtained forms,” he said.
He urged residents to reject politics of violence and ensure a peaceful political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections.
The visit attracted party executives, councillors, youth leaders, women groups, and supporters who welcomed the senator and pledged continued support for his re-election bid.
