Former Manchester United and France forward, Louis Saha has labeled Jadon Sancho as the most disappointing signing in the club’s history.
During Sir Alex Ferguson’s lengthy and successful tenure, United excelled in the transfer market; however, the narrative has changed since his retirement in 2013.
Billions have been invested during this time, yet this substantial expenditure has resulted in only modest achievements, with United not securing the Premier League title since Ferguson’s exit.
Paul Pogba, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Romelu Lukaku, and Rasmus Hojlund – all acquired for a minimum of £70m – represent five of Manchester United’s six most costly signings, alongside current standout Harry Maguire.
None has managed to validate their impressive price tags, but former United striker, Saha, contends that Sancho was the ‘most disappointing’ among them.
Acquired for £73m in 2021, Sancho netted merely 12 goals in 83 appearances for the Red Devils before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
Remarkably, Sancho remains under contract with Manchester United but is poised to sever ties with the club when his current agreement concludes in the summer.
Saha was enthusiastic about Sancho’s signing at Old Trafford, believing he possessed ‘enormous talent’ and describing his difficulties as a ‘mystery’.
He told BetVictor, “I believe Jadon Sancho is the most disappointing signing in Manchester United history.
“This is due to the level he demonstrated at Borussia Dortmund prior to his transfer; he exhibited immense potential as he is an extraordinary talent.
“It seemed like a mystery. I am uncertain about what transpired, but he did not come close to reaching his peak, and I think he requires a fresh start, similar to Marcus Rashford.
“I was truly fortunate to have been a football player, and despite facing numerous injuries, I wish I could have participated in as many matches as Sancho has at his age and with his skill set.
“I would have genuinely loved for him to succeed at Old Trafford because he possesses the ability to accomplish remarkable feats, making this situation quite disappointing.”
