The body of a kidnapped community leader has been recovered in Plateau State, while a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, troops of Sector 4 under Operation Enduring Peace found the decomposing body of Alhaji Lawal Abubakar Wakili, a community leader from Kekong, during a search operation in Gashish District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Security sources said the troops, working with residents, carried out a coordinated search around Kurra, Jokko Hills and nearby bush areas, where the body was eventually discovered.
The victim was earlier abducted in Gashish, prompting ongoing search efforts by both security forces and members of the community.
Following the discovery, tension reportedly rose in parts of the area, with some residents demanding the release of suspects who had earlier been arrested.
However, troops were said to have calmed the situation after engaging with community members and assuring them that due process would be followed.
In a related development, a 67-year-old man, identified as Chiroma Bello Abdulkarim from Ningon village in the same district, was arrested over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing.
He is currently in custody and undergoing investigation alongside other suspects linked to the case.
Security operatives said calm has since been restored in the area, while efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals believed to be connected to the crime.
Authorities added that investigations are being intensified to uncover the full details of the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
