Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, the member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has lost his bid for a third term following the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The results of the primary election were announced by the returning officer, Koshyap Yusuf Yaghi, who declared that Dr. John Tongshinen emerged victorious after polling a total of 29,968 votes while Hon. Gagdi has 5,849 in the exercise.
The outcome of the primary election marked a major political shift in the constituency, where Gagdi had served in the House of Representatives since 2019 and chaired the House Committee on Navy.
Party faithful, delegates, and supporters from across Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam participated in the exercise, which was conducted under the supervision of APC officials and electoral committee members.
Dr. John Tongshinen is expected to fly the party’s flag for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections following his victory at the primaries.
Before the election, Gagdi had embarked on extensive ward-to-ward consultations across the constituency, highlighting his achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, empowerment, and employment opportunities while seeking support for another term in office.
The lawmaker had also defended his third-term ambition amid debates over zoning and power rotation within the constituency, insisting that the Nigerian Constitution grants every eligible citizen the right to contest elective positions.
Political observers described the primary as one of the most closely watched contests in Plateau State due to Gagdi’s political influence and longstanding presence in the constituency.
