Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made on Monday by the returning officer for the primary election, Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura, following the conclusion of the exercise conducted across the constituency.

Kura dismissed claims that no election took place in the constituency, insisting that voting was successfully conducted in all 36 wards despite the late arrival of election materials. According to him, there were videos and other evidence showing that accreditation, voting, and counting took place at the various polling units.

He disclosed that Gagdi polled 29,207 votes out of the total 31,150 votes cast during the primary election, maintaining that he remained the only duly authorized official assigned by the party to declare the result and submit the report to the APC secretariat.

The returning officer further described individuals who earlier announced separate results in his name as imposters, warning that their actions had damaged his reputation and professional integrity.

“Anybody that announced results for PKK other than my humble self is an imposter. The person impersonated me, and I have every right to take legal action because such actions smeared my image,” Kura stated.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Plateau State APC House of Representatives Primaries Electoral Committee, Hon. Stella Okotete, dismissed earlier declarations from the PKK primary election, describing them as unauthorized and lacking legitimacy.

Okotete clarified that only Barr. Nandom Andrew Kura was officially appointed by the committee to serve as returning officer and announce the authentic result of the primary election.

Reacting to the outcome, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi described the exercise as a victory for due process, insisting that the election was peacefully conducted across all wards in the constituency.

“My election was conducted across the 36 electoral wards, and there is no doubt about that. We have videos of the elections, pictures, and evidence of accreditation and counting from all the wards,” Gagdi said.

The federal lawmaker also faulted the earlier result circulated on social media, describing it as fake and unauthorized, while questioning how an individual assigned to another constituency could declare results for PKK.

“If the electoral committee chairman publicly says the person is unknown to her and not appointed for PKK, then that announcement is fake. You cannot announce results for an election you did not conduct,” he added.

Gagdi maintained that despite the controversy surrounding the exercise, he and his supporters remained peaceful throughout the process, while calling on party members and other aspirants to unite for the progress of the APC and the development of Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Federal Constituency.
