Former lawmaker, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, has dismissed reports listing him among aspirants disqualified by the All Progressives Congress, APC, for its senatorial primary election.
The former lawmaker insisted that he neither withdrew nor was disqualified from the electoral process.
DAILY POST earlier reported that the APC on Monday released a list of Senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the Party’s Senate Primary Elections, with the Senator’s name clearly identified.
In the list released by the APC, Bruce was named among those drawn from Bayelsa West and Bayelsa East senatorial districts, who failed to make the cut.
The original list released by the APC for disqualified Bayelsa candidates included Donald Daunemigita — Bayelsa West; Sen. Ben Murray Bruce — Bayelsa East; and Sen. Benson S. Agadaga — Bayelsa East.
However, in a tweet on X, Ben Bruce claimed he neither withdrew from the race nor was disqualified.
He claimed that the report of his disqualification by media outlets prompted him to call the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to explain the development.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, APC has released an updated list showing Bruce has now been cleared.
The party said, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) hereby releases an updated list of Senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the Party’s Senate Primary Elections.
“The APC urges all stakeholders to uphold transparency, orderliness, and the integrity of the ongoing Primary Election process,” Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement.
The APC primary election was scheduled today across the country.
