Governor Caleb Mutfwang has secured victory in the governorship primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mutfwang defeated fellow aspirant Yilchini Jan Bida following the collation of results from all 17 local government areas of the state.
The outcome of the exercise was announced by Fidelis Bemse, Chairman and Returning Officer of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee.
According to Bemse, a total of 240,832 voters were registered for the primary election across Plateau State, with 236,405 votes successfully cast during the exercise.
Mutfwang emerged victorious after polling 233,335 votes, while Bida secured 3,070 votes.
The governor dominated the polls in several local government areas including Jos North, Mangu, Kanam, Jos South, Shendam, Langtang North, and Wase.
In Jos North, Mutfwang recorded 26,652 votes compared to Bida’s 68 votes, while in Mangu Local Government Area he secured 28,095 votes against Bida’s 46 votes.
He also polled 19,509 votes in Kanam as Bida garnered 119 votes. In Shendam Local Government Area, Mutfwang received 17,208 votes, while Bida secured 389 votes.
Bida posted his strongest performance in Qua’an Pan and Kanke local government areas, where he polled 687 votes and 481 votes respectively.
While announcing the final result, Bemse stated that Mutfwang fulfilled all requirements stipulated in the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the primary election.
“Therefore, Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner of the primary election and returned elected,” he said.
With the declaration, Mutfwang officially clinched the APC governorship ticket for the 2027 elections in Plateau State.
