Thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress turned out across Plateau State on Saturday as the party conducted its presidential primary election, with delegates and supporters openly backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
At the Federal Government College in Jos, which served as the voting venue for Jos North Local Government Area, party faithful arrived in large numbers as early as the morning hours, forming long queues while displaying their voting slips and chanting solidarity songs in support of the President.
Similar turnout was witnessed across the Northern, Central, and Southern senatorial zones of the state, with party officials describing participation as impressive and peaceful.
Addressing party members at Naraguta B Ward, Jos North LGA Chairman and Returning Officer, John K. Christopher, described the exercise as a reflection of party unity and democratic engagement.
He thanked party members for their patience and participation, noting that the primary was organised to elect the APC presidential flag bearer for the 2027 elections.
Christopher said party members in Jos North and across Plateau State had resolved to support President Tinubu’s emergence as the APC candidate, while also appreciating supporters for their loyalty to the party leadership, the governor, and the national chairman.
Also speaking, the member representing Jos North North in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Adamu Aliyu, commended the massive turnout and reaffirmed the zone’s commitment to delivering votes for President Tinubu during both the primary and the 2027 general election.
Former House of Representatives member, Suleiman Kwande, also praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise, expressing satisfaction with the organisation of the primary election across the state.
Kwande commended the Plateau State Government for creating what he described as a conducive atmosphere for party members to participate freely, adding that the process remained orderly and calm throughout the state.
He expressed confidence that the APC would record victory during the general election, citing the level of support demonstrated during the primary exercise.
Party officials disclosed that voting proceeded smoothly across the three senatorial zones without any major incident, while collation of results was expected later in the day.
The presidential primary forms part of the APC’s efforts to strengthen internal support and mobilise party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
