Governor Caleb Mutfwang has commissioned the rehabilitated Yelwa Water Treatment Plant in Jos South Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing clean, safe, and reliable water to residents across Plateau State.
The facility, which will serve Bukuru, Gyel, and surrounding communities, is expected to significantly improve access to potable water and ease the burden faced by residents, especially women and children.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Mutfwang described the project as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen water supply infrastructure and improve the living conditions of citizens.
He noted that access to clean water remains a fundamental necessity and pledged that his administration would continue investing in projects that directly impact the welfare of the people.
The governor also called on residents to safeguard public water facilities, warning against acts of vandalism and encroachment on water infrastructure and reservoir sites.
According to him, protecting water assets is essential to ensuring sustainable service delivery and meeting the growing demand for potable water across the state.
In a major boost to the water sector, Governor Mutfwang announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding worth over ₦28 billion with China Geo-Engineering Corporation and Shanxi Construction Investment Group.
The agreement, financed through a loan facility provided by the French Development Agency, is aimed at rehabilitating and expanding water treatment plants and distribution networks throughout Plateau State.
The governor explained that the project will modernize aging infrastructure, improve water quality, and extend access to safe drinking water to more communities across the state.
He said the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader vision to build resilient public infrastructure and ensure sustainable water supply for present and future generations of Plateau residents.
