Popular Berom cultural advocate and social media personality, Dung Clement, popularly known as Suga Berom, has reacted to the recent Plateau State High Court judgment on indigene status in Jos North Local Government Area.
The reaction comes days after the court ruled that a Hausa woman born and raised in Jos North to an indigene father is entitled to be recognized as an indigene and issued a Certificate of Indigene.
In a post shared on his verified Facebook account, Suga Berom appeared to reaffirm his identity as a Berom indigene, stressing that indigeneity is rooted in ancestry and heritage.
“I am a Berom Man from Jos north i don’t need court certification to qualify me as an indigene.”
The cultural activist further suggested that one’s roots and lineage remain the primary basis for determining indigene status.
“You are one if you know your roots.”
