The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged unestablished Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to produce the alleged Director-General of the council, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, before the panel.
Chairman of the committee, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, gave the directive on Tuesday during the resumed investigative hearing after Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bashir Abdullahi, appeared on behalf of the IGP.
Gagdi said the committee considered Adeyemi’s appearance necessary in view of the repeated references made to him and the alleged council during the course of the investigation.
“The Inspector-General of Police is directed to produce Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi before this committee by 12 noon on Wednesday. His appearance has become necessary following the numerous references made to him and the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council during this investigation,” Gagdi said.
The committee maintained that Adeyemi’s appearance would assist lawmakers in establishing the facts surrounding the activities of the alleged council and ensure a thorough investigation.
The panel adjourned proceedings until Wednesday for further hearing.
The committee also expressed concern over the continued absence of key individuals linked to the alleged council, stressing that the investigation was aimed at uncovering the truth and safeguarding the integrity of public institutions.
Gagdi said the panel would not allow anyone connected with the matter to frustrate its proceedings, insisting that all those invited must honour the committee’s summons.
“This committee is determined to carry out its constitutional mandate without fear or favour. Anyone whose name has featured prominently in this investigation must appear before us to clarify the issues,” he stated.
He assured that the investigation would be conducted transparently and in accordance with the law, adding that the committee remained committed to protecting Nigeria’s investment environment from activities capable of undermining public confidence.
The committee thereafter adjourned the hearing until 12 noon on Wednesday, when the alleged Director-General is expected to appear before the lawmakers.
