The University of Jos, UNIJOS, has suspended all non-academic activities in its university halls with immediate effect.
The institution announced the suspension in an internal memorandum dated July 28, 2026, and addressed to members of the university community.
The directive affects staff, unions, students and other users of the university halls who engage in activities not directly related to academic purposes.
According to the memorandum, all affected users are required to suspend the use of the facilities for such activities pending further notice from the university management.
“The University of Jos Community is hereby notified of the University’s Management decision on the suspension of all non-academic activities in the University halls with immediate effect,” the memo stated.
The management further directed all members of staff, unions, students and other users of the halls to comply with the decision and refrain from using the facilities for non-academic activities.
The university did not state the reason for the suspension in the memorandum, nor did it indicate how long the directive would remain in force.
It, however, expressed regret over any inconvenience the decision may cause members of the university community and appealed for their understanding and cooperation.
“The University Management regrets any inconveniences the decision may have caused and appreciate the entire University Community for understanding,” the statement added.
The management also clarified that the suspension is temporary and that a fresh notice would be issued when the restriction is lifted.
“Note that subsequently, a notice will be issued as soon as the suspension is lifted,” the university stated.
The memorandum was signed by Izhaku Arandong Jamoki, Assistant Registrar, Information and Publications, on behalf of the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications.
The directive comes as the university continues to regulate the use of its facilities and coordinate activities within the institution.
Members of the university community affected by the directive are therefore expected to comply with the suspension until management issues further communication.
The university management urged staff, students, unions and other stakeholders to take note of the directive and make necessary arrangements to suspend all non-academic activities in the halls pending further notice.
