The University of Jos, UNIJOS, has scheduled a crucial meeting with all students to deliberate on security concerns and recent activities within the university community.
The meeting, approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, is aimed at addressing issues threatening the peace, security and image of the institution.
According to an internal memorandum dated July 29, 2026, the meeting will hold on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium.
It is scheduled to commence at 9:00am prompt, with the university management directing all students to attend the meeting.
“In view of recent events that threatens the peace, security, and good image of our University, I have approved the convening of a crucial meeting with all students of the University of Jos,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
The university said the meeting would provide an opportunity to discuss general security concerns and recent activities involving students.
“The primary objective of this meeting is to deliberate on general security concerns within the University community, recent unhealthy activities of students and to chart a collective course of action to safeguard the well-being of all members of the University community,” he said.
To ensure full participation, the management directed all deans of faculties and heads of departments to declare a lecture-free period from 9:00am to 12:00 noon on Friday.
“Considering the significance of the meeting, all Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments are by this notice directed to declare a lecture-free period between 9:00am and 12:00noon on the said date,” the memo stated.
The management said the directive was intended to ensure that all students are available to participate in the meeting.
It further emphasized that attendance is compulsory for all students, while members listed on the relevant distribution list are also expected to attend.
The meeting comes amid recent concerns over peace and security within the university community, with the management seeking to engage students in finding solutions to the challenges.
The Vice-Chancellor urged members of the university community to take the meeting seriously as the institution seeks to chart a collective course of action for the safety and well-being of students and staff.
