Dr. Danjuma Sanda, former Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, has declared his intention to contest the Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections, pledging to provide effective, people-centred representation if elected.
Sanda made this known while addressing journalists in Jos on Saturday, during his formal declaration of intention to contest the seat under the platform of the Young Progressives Party, YPP.
He said his decision followed extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders and was driven by his desire to effectively represent the interests and aspirations of the people of Bassa/Jos North at the National Assembly.
According to him, the constituency requires a representative capable of articulating, defending and negotiating the interests of the people at the national level.
“Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency needs someone who can argue, persuade, convince and effectively make the case for the people of Plateau at the national level,” Sanda said.
He said his representation, if elected, would focus on peace and security, infrastructure development, healthcare, education and economic opportunities for youths and women.
Sanda promised to lobby for strategic Federal projects, including the upgrading and rehabilitation of rural and urban roads, as well as improved primary healthcare delivery across the constituency.
He also pledged to promote digital skills acquisition, agricultural support and entrepreneurship development as pathways to expand economic opportunities for youths and women.
On education, Sanda said he would liaise with local and international non-governmental organisations to support the upgrading of educational facilities and promote technology-driven learning for young people in the constituency.
He further promised to maintain an open-door policy, with regular town-hall meetings and grassroots engagement, to ensure that constituents participate in determining legislative priorities.
Sanda also pledged to support reconstruction, rehabilitation and reconciliation in communities affected by years of violence, stressing that sustainable peace must involve the people directly affected by conflicts.
He said he would work with relevant stakeholders to promote inter-religious harmony and ensure that the challenges confronting Bassa/Jos North remain a priority at all levels of government.
The former council chairman also promised to draw the attention of the Federal Government to the environmental devastation caused by decades of mining activities in the constituency, including abandoned mining ponds and loss of farmlands.
Sanda said his aspiration was motivated by a commitment to effective representation, accountability and sustainable development, expressing confidence that he could provide the constituency with a stronger voice at the national level.
