Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Palm Sunday attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, describing it as a “barbaric assault” and a stark reflection of Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation.

In a statement posted on his official X handle on Monday, Atiku reacted to the Sunday night attack, which reportedly left several residents dead and many others injured.

Expressing outrage, he said the continued killings across the country highlight a near-total collapse of governance.

“I am outraged by the barbaric attack in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed the lives of scores of innocent Nigerians and left many others injured,” he wrote.

“That this heinous assault occurred on Sunday night, March 29, 2026, is yet another damning indictment of the near-total collapse of security in our country. What we are witnessing is not merely a security lapse, but a tragic descent into lawlessness where human lives are treated as expendable,” Atiku added.

He called for urgent political action, stressing that “the anger across the land must now compel decisive political will to confront and crush this menace. The continued slaughter of innocent citizens cannot become our new normal.”

Atiku concluded by sending his thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones of the victims during this “dark and painful moment.”
