COAS Leads Security Assessment Team to Plateau, Reaffirms Commitment to Peace – Matthew Tegha Blog

The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has led a high-powered delegation of security chiefs on an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos, Plateau State.

The visit, which took place on April 2, 2026, is part of ongoing efforts to restore calm and ensure lasting peace following recent security challenges in the state.

Upon arrival, the army chief was received by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, highlighting continued collaboration between the military and the state government in addressing insecurity.

During the visit, the COAS received an operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Folusho Oyinlola, detailing ongoing military operations and coordinated efforts with other security agencies to contain threats and protect communities.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also engaged with community leaders and residents, assuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He urged citizens to remain calm, comply with the curfew, and support security agencies by providing useful information.

Reacting to the visit, the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, JK Chris, commended the army leadership for the timely intervention, noting that it would boost public confidence.

Similarly, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Ladi Dangyok, described the visit as reassuring to affected communities.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and stakeholders to address security challenges and restore lasting peace across the state.
