The Plateau State Government has directed owners of unapproved roadside structures, kiosks and temporary business shelters to vacate highways, road setbacks, roundabouts and other reserved public spaces across the state within seven working days.
The directive was contained in a public notice issued by the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) on behalf of the state government and dated July 30, 2026.
According to the notice, the government said the use of unapproved kiosks, canopies, umbrellas, makeshift stalls, car wash facilities, car-selling stands and other temporary structures along highways and reserved spaces is no longer permitted.
The government said the enforcement is aimed at restoring order in public spaces, improving traffic flow, protecting road infrastructure and ensuring that highways and other reserved areas are free from unauthorized commercial activities.
Affected business operators were directed to remove all illegal structures already erected at the affected locations and relocate to approved business areas within the stipulated period.
“Consequently, all affected individuals are hereby directed to vacate their current business spots within seven (7) working days from the date of this notice.”
The government warned that failure to comply with the directive would attract sanctions in line with existing laws and regulations guiding physical development and public space management in the state.
“The Board urges everyone to comply fully with this directive, as defaulters will face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with existing regulations.”
The state government explained that the exercise forms part of broader efforts to restore order, strengthen public safety and maintain environmental sanitation across Plateau State.
