Governor Mutfwang Commissions 150 New Agro-Rangers To Strengthen Farm Security And Food Production In Plateau
In a major push to improve security for farmers and boost national food security, Plateau State Governor, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has officially commissioned an additional 150 Agro-Rangers. The officers, trained under the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), will be deployed across the state to protect farmlands and rural communities from security threats.
The commissioning took place during the Passing-Out Parade (POP) of the new Agro-Rangers at the NSCDC Command and Staff College in Naton-Fursa, Jos East LGA.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized that agriculture is the backbone of the economy and must be protected. “Our farms are national assets,” he said. “To ensure food security, farmers must be able to access and return from their fields safely.” He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive development across Plateau.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s security leadership for their continued support in stabilizing the region. He praised the NSCDC’s Agro-Rangers initiative as a timely and effective response to rural insecurity, which undermines both economic growth and national stability.
“Rural insecurity is a serious threat,” the Governor warned. “A hungry population is vulnerable to manipulation. That’s why securing our food sources is a top priority.”
Highlighting recent successes, he revealed that security forces—including Agro-Rangers—recently facilitated the peaceful evacuation of thousands of cattle from Bokkos LGA, demonstrating a growing capacity for conflict resolution through dialogue and professionalism.
Addressing the newly inducted Agro-Rangers, Governor Mutfwang urged them to serve with integrity, patriotism, and a strong sense of duty. “This is more than a job—it’s a national calling,” he said.
NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, confirmed this is the second deployment of Agro-Rangers in the state and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to supporting the state government in securing farmlands and promoting food security nationwide.
“We are committed to expanding this initiative across Nigeria,” Dr. Audi said, following a courtesy visit to the Governor where they discussed long-term strategies for peace and rural security.
