Former Werder Bremen captain, Max Kruse, has criticized Victor Boniface, accusing the striker of sabotaging his own career by showing up to training overweight after a long injury absence.

Boniface has struggled this season at Werder Bremen because of injuries and poor form.

The 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen loanee had returned to the training pitch a few days ago after a serious knee injury that threatened to end his season early.

However, Kruse, a former Germany international, was not pleased with the Nigerian’s physicality.

“I think Victor Boniface has already given up on his career,” Kruse said on the Flatterball Podcast (via Bild).

“That is a real shame, because he has such great potential, and it does not work if you stay overnight. I am just going to lose 10-15 kilos of weight with four weeks of training.”
