Chairman Pirfa Tyem Reaffirms Commitment to Peace, Security During Condolence Visits in Langtang North

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, has paid a series of condolence visits to grieving families and traditional institutions across the local government area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace, security, and the wellbeing of the people.

During a solemn visit to the residence of the late District Head of Kwallak, Ponzhi Kwallak (Patrick Vongtim), the Chairman commiserated with the bereaved family, the Tarok Traditional Council, and the entire Kwallak community over the tragic loss of the revered traditional ruler, who was killed in a violent robbery incident.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Tyem conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and expressed deep sorrow over the circumstances surrounding the death. He described the incident as a painful reminder of the growing threat of criminality and stressed that such acts have no place in a society built on strong cultural and moral foundations.

The Chairman called for calm as burial arrangements proceed, urging the community to honour the memory of the late Ponzhi through a peaceful and dignified ceremony. He emphasized that while death is inevitable, the manner of loss in this case is deeply troubling and unacceptable.

Speaking further, Chairman Tyem highlighted the urgent need to confront rising insecurity, linking it to the erosion of family values and societal discipline. He called on parents, community leaders, and all residents to take collective responsibility in guiding young people away from crime and restoring the moral fabric of society.

He assured the community of his administration’s resolve to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions and security agencies, including the possible deployment of joint patrol teams and other proactive measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Langtang North.

In his response, the Acting Ponzhi Tarok, Ponzhi Zinni Nimnan Langnim, who spoke on behalf of the traditional council, expressed gratitude for the Chairman’s presence and leadership at a critical moment. He described the incident as a reflection of deeper societal challenges, including the breakdown of family structures and increasing tolerance for indiscipline.

He urged households to be more vigilant and intentional in raising responsible children, warning that minor acts of misconduct, if unchecked, often evolve into serious criminal behaviour. He also called for stronger community cooperation in tackling insecurity, stressing that lasting solutions must begin at the grassroots.

The traditional council pledged its full support to the Chairman’s administration in the fight against criminality and the restoration of peace and order in the area.

Community stakeholders, including hospitality operators and commercial motorcycle riders, were also urged to remain vigilant, monitor activities within their spaces, and avoid harbouring individuals involved in criminal acts.

The Councillor representing Kwallak Ward, Hon. Yilkur Isa, appreciated the Governor, the Local Government Chairman, and the traditional council for their show of solidarity. He condemned the killing and called for sustained efforts to address security challenges in the area.

In a related development, Chairman Tyem also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Adama Danga, where he described her passing as a painful loss and encouraged the family to remain steadfast in faith, noting that life’s uncertainty calls for unity, compassion, and preparedness.

The Office of the Executive Chairman reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity for all residents of Langtang North. The administration will continue to work closely with traditional leaders, security agencies, and community stakeholders to implement lasting solutions to insecurity and promote a safer, more cohesive society.
