The Oyo State Police Command has revealed that it has arrested two policemen over the death of a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan.
The command noted that the two policemen were carrying out illegal duty when the incident occurred.
The command made these declarations via a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.
The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday night.
Ayanlade, in the statement, said that the incident occurred on 24th April 2026 in the Moniya area of Ibadan.
He said that the two policemen, attached to Kara Police Outpost and operating under the supervision of the District Officer (D.O.), were allegedly carrying out an unauthorised stop-and-search operation within their jurisdiction.
The two policemen intercepted the commercial motorcyclist identified as Sanni Salisu.
He said that the motorcyclist suddenly developed what appeared to be an epileptic seizure, slumped on his motorcycle, and became unresponsive.
Ayanlade, while speaking further, maintained that the motorcyclist was immediately conveyed to Modupe Hospital, Akinyele, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
He said that this made some angry residents destroy some properties within the police station.
Ayanlade said that the two policemen involved have been arrested.
He said, “In view of the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, ordered the immediate arrest of the officers involved, who have since been defaulted and are currently in custody.”
