Alfred Dapal Damiyal (ADD) has urged Nigerians to use Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect on the country’s democratic journey and recommit themselves to the ideals of accountability, justice, and inclusive governance.
In a Democracy Day message, the Plateau politician joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the resilience, sacrifices, and enduring spirit that have sustained democratic rule in the country.
Dapal noted that democracy goes beyond the conduct of elections, stressing that it must translate into improved living conditions and meaningful development for citizens.
“Democracy is not just about elections; it is about accountability, justice, inclusion, and the delivery of real dividends to the people. It is about building a society where every citizen has a voice, every community matters, and leadership remains a sacred trust.”
He called for honest reflection on the nation’s progress, saying Nigerians must continually assess whether democratic governance is meeting the expectations of the people.
“As we reflect on our journey, we must also ask ourselves important questions: Are we truly where we ought to be? Can we do better? The answer is yes.”
According to him, citizens deserve greater access to opportunities, stronger institutions, improved security, quality education, affordable healthcare, and leadership that prioritizes public welfare.
The PDP governorship aspirant also highlighted Plateau State’s vast potential, describing its diversity and resilient people as key assets for development and progress.
“Plateau is blessed with immense potential, rich diversity, and resilient people. Together, we can build a safer, united, and more prosperous future.”
Dapal emphasized that democracy gives citizens the power to demand accountability and shape a better future through responsible leadership and collective action.
He concluded by calling on Nigerians, particularly Plateau citizens, to renew their commitment to peace, unity, and development, expressing optimism that the future remains bright if the right choices are made.
