The Boys’ Brigade Nigeria has performed the investiture of the Gwom Rwey Foron, His Royal Highness Da David Bunah Dashong, alongside other distinguished Nigerians, as National Patrons of the organisation in recognition of their contributions to youth development, Christian leadership and community service.
The investiture was performed by the National President of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Prof. Engr. Samson Duna, during a colourful ceremony held at the COCIN RCC Headquarters, Dadin Kowa, Jos.
Other prominent personalities invested as National Patrons included the Permanent Secretary, Plateau State Ministry of Information and Communication, Mr. Nanman Jonah Kparbong; Barrister Niri Isaac Darong; Engr. Chief Ambassador Dr. Meshak Congo Maichibi; and the Plateau State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Barrister Peter Nyam Gai.
Speaking during the ceremony, Duna charged the newly invested patrons to actively support the organisation’s mission of moulding young people into disciplined, responsible and God-fearing citizens.
He said the Boys’ Brigade remained committed to character development, Christian discipleship and leadership training, stressing that the support of patrons was crucial to sustaining the organisation’s activities.
“The responsibility of our patrons goes beyond ceremonial recognition. They are expected to provide moral, financial and spiritual support that will enable the Boys’ Brigade to continue shaping the lives of young people and contributing to nation-building,” he said.
The event also featured the formal investiture of Barrister Yilji David Nenfwang as President of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Plateau State Council, alongside the inauguration of other state executive officers.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Plateau State Traditional Council of Chiefs and Emirs, the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, challenged the newly invested patrons to become agents of positive change in society.
He lamented the gradual erosion of moral values and discipline in homes, schools, churches and communities, noting that organisations such as the Boys’ Brigade play a vital role in restoring ethical standards among young people.
The paramount ruler also urged Christians to embrace unity and love irrespective of ethnic or linguistic differences.
“The Church must stand as a symbol of unity and brotherhood. There should be no room for tribalism, discrimination or favouritism. Before God, we are all one,” he stated.
Buba further called on the Plateau State Government to strengthen the education sector through the recruitment of qualified teachers and the reintroduction of value-based learning across primary and secondary schools.
Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Davou Jatau Gyang, congratulated the newly invested patrons and urged them to deploy their influence, experience and resources towards strengthening the Boys’ Brigade and advancing youth development initiatives.
Responding on behalf of the newly invested patrons, Da David Bunah Dashong, Barrister Peter Gai and Mr. Nanman Jonah Kparbong expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed on them and pledged unwavering support to the organisation.
They described their investiture as both a privilege and a responsibility, promising to contribute meaningfully towards promoting the objectives of the Boys’ Brigade.
According to them, the organisation remains one of the foremost Christian youth movements dedicated to raising responsible and patriotic citizens through discipline, leadership training, community service and spiritual development.
In his acceptance speech, the newly invested Plateau State President, Barrister Nenfwang, thanked members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide visionary leadership that would expand the Brigade’s activities across the state.
He outlined plans to focus on membership growth, capacity building, spiritual enrichment and strategic partnerships aimed at empowering young people and promoting positive societal values.
“The Boys’ Brigade remains a vital platform for nurturing future leaders and instilling virtues that foster peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship and national development”, he said.
The ceremony attracted government officials, traditional rulers, church leaders, Boys’ Brigade officers, members and supporters from across Plateau State, who gathered to celebrate leadership, service and the organisation’s enduring commitment to youth development.
