BREAKING: ASUU Declares Indefinite Nationwide Strike Effective Tomorrow, 21 November 2025
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially declared a total and indefinite strike across all public universities in Nigeria, starting Friday, 21 November 2025.The decision, announced this evening, follows the expiration of a one-month ultimatum issued to the Federal Government in October. ASUU accuses the government of failing to honour agreements on salary review, payment of earned allowances, and adequate funding for public universities.“No going back. The strike begins tomorrow,” ASUU National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed in a statement.Lectures, examinations, and all academic activities in federal and state universities will be grounded until further notice.This is the first major nationwide strike under the Tinubu administration and comes just weeks after the end of a two-week warning strike in October.Students have begun trending #ASUUStrike on social media, with many expressing frustration over another disruption to their academic calendar.The Federal Ministry of Education is yet to respond to the latest development.
