The Plateau State Government has condemned the violence that occurred on May 1, 2026, along the Mangu–Sabon Gari Road, where some persons reportedly blocked the highway and attacked innocent commuters.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government said while it understands public anger over the April 30 killings in Sabon Gari, violence and road blockades are unacceptable.
The government stressed that no grievance justifies attacking innocent citizens or disrupting public peace.
Authorities have directed security agencies to arrest and prosecute all persons involved in both the April 30 killings and the May 1 disturbances.
“The law will take its course,” the statement said.
The state government also extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives and sympathised with everyone affected by the incidents.
It further appreciated the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, for his understanding despite being affected during the unrest.
The government commended Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies for their swift response in bringing the situation under control.
Community, religious, and political leaders were urged to remain calm and help reduce tension in the affected areas.
Residents were also encouraged to use lawful channels to express grievances, while the government reiterated its openness to dialogue.
The statement warned that anyone found inciting violence or taking the law into their hands through reprisal attacks or road blockades would face the full weight of the law.
Citizens across Plateau State were urged to remain peaceful and support ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability.
