The Plateau Environmental Protection and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) has called on residents and communities across Plateau State to clear blocked drainages, waterways, and culverts ahead of the peak of the rainy season.
The Agency made the call while announcing the routine Monthly General Sanitation Exercise scheduled to hold on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the state.
In a statement signed by the Director General of PEPSA, Mr. Samuel Nathaniel Dapiya, residents were encouraged to actively participate in the sanitation exercise by cleaning their surroundings and complying with environmental sanitation guidelines.
The Agency noted that communities must complement ongoing sanitation and desiltation interventions earlier carried out by PEPSA in various parts of the state.
According to the statement, “Particular attention should be given to the clearing of blocked drainages, waterways, and culverts to ensure free flow of water as the rainy season intensifies.”
PEPSA warned that failure to maintain clean drainages could increase the risk of flooding, environmental pollution, and other public health concerns within communities.
“This collective responsibility is necessary to reduce the risk of flooding, environmental pollution, and related public health concerns within our communities,” the statement added.
The Agency also disclosed that movement would be restricted during the stipulated sanitation hours to ensure full compliance and effective participation.
PEPSA further stated that its officials would carry out routine monitoring and supervision across communities during the sanitation exercise.
“The Agency also wishes to inform the public that PEPSA officials will conduct routine supervision and monitoring of compliance across various communities in the State,” the statement noted.
PEPSA appreciated residents for their continued cooperation and support toward maintaining a cleaner, safer, and environmentally sustainable Plateau State.
The Agency urged citizens to see environmental sanitation as a shared responsibility necessary for protecting lives, property, and public health during the rainy season.
