The BARC Farms Project, launched under the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Scheme by Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration, has achieved a remarkable milestone with a successful harvest that has brought smiles to the faces of young farmers across the state.
Designed to increase youth participation in agriculture, the initiative covers 1,000 hectares of farmland and provides beneficiaries with modern farming tools, training, and ongoing technical support.
Each of the 1,000 participating youths received one hectare of land to cultivate crops such as maize, rice, and sorghum, with access to state-provided tractors, sprayers, and other mechanized equipment to enhance productivity.
The project, which aligns with Governor Mutfwang’s vision to boost food production, create jobs, and strengthen food security, has already begun to yield tangible results with a bumper harvest recorded this season.
Speaking with newsmen, several beneficiaries expressed their excitement, describing the success as a testament to the governor’s dedication to agricultural transformation and youth empowerment.
One of the participants, Ben Daze, praised the initiative for showcasing Plateau’s potential for agricultural self-reliance.
“From the current harvest at BARC Farms, it’s clear that Plateau can produce enough food to feed itself and even beyond if this program continues,” Daze said.
He commended Governor Mutfwang for reviving the once-neglected BARC Farms and turning it into a center of productivity and opportunity.
“We are proud of this initiative and the governor’s commitment to taking Plateau to greater heights,” he added.
The BARC Farms Project represents a landmark achievement in the Mutfwang administration’s drive for economic revival through agriculture, firmly positioning Plateau State as a leading model of youth-led agribusiness and sustainable development in Nigeria.
