Governor Caleb Mutfwang has launched a new phase of development at the BARC Farms Project in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, with the construction of six modern poultry houses  each designed to accommodate between 120,000 and 125,000 birds.

The project is part of the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme (P-YAEP), a flagship initiative designed to empower 1,000 young people across the state through mechanized farming, agribusiness training, and the adoption of modern agricultural practices.

To ensure long-term success, the Mutfwang administration has invested heavily in the initiative, providing fertilizers, herbicides, advanced machinery, accommodation, feeding, security, and professional training for all participants.

Under the programme, each youth has been allocated one hectare of farmland for the cultivation of maize, rice, beans, and guinea corn  coupled with hands-on training in commercial farming and the use of modern agricultural tools.

The project is being led by Mr. Jan James Tujay, a young and energetic project manager overseeing a team of experts and participants committed to transforming BARC Farms into a model of agricultural innovation and excellence.

Beyond the poultry facilities, the government is also building a three-storey administrative block, establishing a cattle ranch and a piggery, and rehabilitating more than 10 large fish ponds that had been abandoned for years. The state is further exploring Napier grass farming for sustainable livestock feed production.

To promote innovation and productivity, the farm has been equipped with Starlink satellite internet and recreational facilities, creating a dynamic, youth-friendly, and technology-driven environment.

Stakeholders have praised Governor Mutfwang’s vision and commitment to revitalizing agriculture in Plateau State, describing the transformation of BARC Farms as a major step toward achieving youth empowerment, food security, and inclusive economic growth.
